Florian Okwu is a Nigerian and German-American sculptor working primarily with wood to create abstract beings, creatures and structures which populate the mythos of an imaginary world. At the core of his work, objects are treated as individuals whose souls are born, destroyed, or yet to be found upon their completion.
Florian’s anthropomorphic sculptures often reference life-cycles, asking us to consider the weight and role of objects, beauty, and purpose in our impermanent lives. He defines his artistic practice as one of aesthetic inquiry, attunement to humanity and a physical mapping of his time, inspirations, and acquired skills.
